Three days before the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes was once more voted the most valuable player of the NFL season. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback won the AP poll among NFL journalists by a wide margin over his final competitor Jalen Hurts from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The two teams will face each other on Monday night (12:30 a.m. CET) in the Super Bowl. The 27-year-old Mahomes received the award for the 2018 season and is only the second quarterback in NFL history to have two MVP titles before his 28th birthday.

However, the election is not necessarily a good sign for him: All nine football professionals who last played in the Super Bowl in the season of their MVP election lost the final. Mahomes got 490 points, Hurts got 193. Third was Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen with 151 points.
