Michigan fans had Patrick Mahomes and just regarding everyone on Twitter agreeing with them that the umpires screwed up the Wolverines by reversing a TD call.
It didn’t take long for the Fiesta Bowl referees to inject some controversy into the college football playoffs.
In the second quarter, Michigan had a critical touchdown taken off the board at the goal line and the result was devastating.
The Wolverines had fallen behind TCU by 14 points following just one quarter. They nailed a field goal and then really picked up the momentum with an interception on an angled pass. On the first play following the turnover, JJ McCarthy hit Roman Wilson for a 50-yard touchdown over.
However, the referees watched the play and called the receiver over the goal line. Most of the time, such a reversal would not matter in the long run. This time it was a disaster for Michigan as they quickly fumbled a transfer and returned possession to the Horned Frogs.
Twitter rarely meets on controversial calls, but most people seemed to agree with Michigan fans that the referees botched the call.
Patrick Mahomes and Michigan fans think umpires messed up TD call
I don’t even like Michigan but the player literally bobbles it and takes possession in the end zone so it should have been a td. Can’t miss that call in a game with those high stakes pic.twitter.com/dcAU3bUJsr

No way it’s short lol then a breakaway ????????????

a lot of people don’t know why that Michigan touchdown was called off. It’s actually quite simple: Rule 8, Section 3, Paragraph IV of the NCAA Rulebook states that umpires can call a game off if they think something really funny is regarding to happen.

That call (wrong in my opinion) that overturned Michigan’s touchdown is a huge moment now.

It’s a ridiculous turn of events and frankly it’s a shame. This take is absolutely a touchdown. And that’s why it’s important. #Michigan

just randomly robbed Michigan of a touchdown for no reason

I think the reversal of this Michigan TD was quite brutal.
Yes – WR’s knee was at the half yard line. But the ball hadn’t arrived and he didn’t have control of the ball until his hindquarters were across the goal line.
It is a huge lack.#CFBPlayoff

Horrible horrific knockdown by replay on Michigan TD…indisputable evidence needed to overturn the field call…there was none…BS counter in the red!

This decision is the kind of thing that ruins great games. This goes once morest the idea of “clear and obvious evidence” to overturn the appeal. The receiver may have had one knee on the ground when the ball went into his arms, but he didn’t establish possession until he was closer to the goal line. If he was small, the replays do not show it indisputably.
Michigan has no excuse for the botched goal-line transfer. It’s their fault they missed what should have been an easy touchdown as a result of this review. However, the referees missed the call, plain and simple. If they hadn’t, Wolverines wouldn’t have had to worry regarding transfers or fumbles.
