A graduate of EM Strasbourg Business School, Patrick Hetzel obtained a doctorate in management sciences in 1993 from Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University on the subject of “Design management and supply formation”. He passed the management sciences aggregation exam in 1996.
He is a teacher-researcher, professor of management sciences at the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas within the Panthéon-Assas Management Sciences Research Laboratory (LARGEPA). His research themes include, among others, innovation management and product development, distribution marketing, economic management and global competitiveness, public management.
In 2005, Patrick Hetzel was appointed rector of the Limoges academy, then a year later, president of the commission responsible for bringing universities and employment closer together. He then became the education, higher education and research advisor to François Fillon, then Prime Minister. He was Director General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research from 2008 to 2012.
Alsatian, Patrick Hetzel has been a LR (Les Républicains) deputy for the seventh constituency of Bas-Rhin since 2012 and a member of the Commission for Constitutional Laws, Legislation and General Administration of the Republic.
On the proposal of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, the President of the Republic appoints Patrick Hetzel as Minister of Higher Education and Research on September 21, 2024.
