Patrick Duffy Mourns Loss of Co-Star Suzanne Somers: A Touching Tribute

Suzanne Somers’ on-screen husband, Patrick Duffy, is mourning the loss of his late co-star.

The 74-year-old actor shared a sweet statement remembering his ‘dear and deep friend’, who passed away at the age of 76 following a long battle with cancer on Sunday morning.

In a statement he shared with People on Monday, the Dallas star reflected on their many years of friendship and recalled how he originally had plans to visit her just days earlier to help her celebrate what would have been her 77th birthday.

With the lengthy and touching message, he also paid tribute to the Three’s Company actress and the impact she made on not only his life but the world.

The two of them had starred opposite one another, playing husband and wife, on the hit ABC sitcom Step by Step from 1991 to 1998.

‘As with everyone who knew her, I was stunned yesterday by the news that my dear and deep friend Suzanne had passed,’ his statement began.

‘For that brief moment it was unbelievable,’ he continued regarding the shocking and tragic news. ‘But indeed she has passed.’

The Bold and the Beautiful star then went on regarding the impact she made on his life and how much he will miss his longtime friend.

‘She beautifully passed through my life on this leg of her endless journey,’ he said.

‘My task now is to remain on the roadside as she continues on,’ he added before listing some of the the things he will miss sharing with her — ‘the phone calls, the emails, the visits, and the meals and laughter’.

He said the value of their friendship and her memory will live on. ‘But the dialogue of deep and thoughtful, and silly and frivolous continues,’ he said.

‘My conversations with her now will be held solely through my daily Buddhist practice,’ the director added.

He then recalled how he was supposed to meet up with Somers and her husband, Alan Hamel before her tragic passing.

‘I am not alone in wishing I had one more face-to-face with her and [her husband] Alan, but had we had that meeting last Friday I would still be yearning for just one more today,’ he said. ‘It is the painful beauty of our present human reality.’

‘What strength and support I can muster I send to Alan and [her son] Bruce and her family,’ he continued. ‘And to her I say; When the stone of your life dropped in this pond you made quite a ripple my friend. Thank you.’

According to a statement released by Somers’ longtime publicist R. Couri Hay, she passed away ‘peacefully in her sleep’ while surrounded by her husband, her son, and their close family.

In the past 23 years, she had battled various aggressive forms of cancer before her tragic death.
