The former coach of the Ivory Coast national team, Patrice Baumel, explained the reason for not coaching the national team Egypt After the departure of Carlos Queiroz, following the failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Queiroz left the Pharaohs at the end of last March following losing to Senegal 3-1 on penalties, as his contract stipulated the automatic termination without paying any penalty clause in the event of failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
Bommel left the ranks of Côte d’Ivoire at the beginning of last April, following the expiration of his contract as well, and the Ivorian Federation preferred that the Frenchman not complete the task, despite their hosting of the 2023 African Nations Cup on their soil.

Baumel spoke to the French network “Foot Mercato”, and said, “I live every moment well in my coaching career.”
He continued, “There were contacts a few weeks ago regarding the possibility of training for the Egyptian national team.”
He added, laughing: “I don’t know why it was not done in all honesty, it was very close as if it was completed, but in the last moments they chose to take over the Pyramids coach (Ihab Galal)”.
He continued, “I wish him all the best. The Egyptian team is an African giant in recovery, and I have offers from five different continents, but I enjoy a little time with my family, but I will study those offers and make the right decision to complete my career.”
