The formal dissolution of the project contract for the construction of the 12th full-day primary school of Patras in Voud Square is expected to take place within 2024, so that the bureaucratic procedures for a new tender and the selection of a new contractor can then start from the beginning.
The head of the Architectural Project Directorate of the Municipality of Patreon, Nikos Moraitis, notes that the contract for the project is being dissolved as, as antiquities were found at the site, which “froze” the work. Specifically, he emphasized: “The archaeological service was responsible for the 12th Primary school. A crew was not set up for the excavations required when the antiquities were found, because the findings of the Upper City were burdened. However, we are ready to re-auction the project. No project is lost with the funding available.”
The project is financed by the NSRF with a total budget of 3,403,800 euros. What has not been clarified is when the procedures for the re-publication of the school in Boud Square will start. Several months ago, when the contractor had settled in, the work was progressing at a rapid pace, but the works were halted by the discovery of ancients. Since then the area around the 12th Primary School remains fenced off and the project has not progressed. At the moment it is unknown when it will be re-auctioned, but it remains within the Municipality’s Technical Program.
The Municipality Services, however, declare that they are ready and this is the optimistic element of the case. However, for one more year and apparently for the next one as well, the students of the 12th Primary School live a little daily suffering, since they attend a school complex on Antheias Street, near ABEX.
