As he added, for the issue of meningitis “preventive chemoprophylaxis will be administered to approximately 600 students, as well as preventive administration of drugs in consultation with the rector’s authorities, while the information of the students from the EODY level continues”.
At the same time, Yiannis Karvelis noted that “three vaccines against meningitis have already been given in contact with the three cases”.
Regarding the 20-year-old student of the University of Peloponnese, who recently suffered from meningitis, the commander of the 6th Ministry of Health said that “he is in better health and is already in the stage of recovery, always having the care of doctors and nurses” .
In the meantime, in a statement issued by the University of Patras, it is stated that “yesterday and today, a team of the EODY was found on the premises of the University, in the context of information and prevention about meningitis, and they administered chemoprophylaxis to 125 students of the Department of Mathematics, as well as to housekeepers of the student home, from the total of 2,500 students who had been notified by the University to attend if they wish”.
In addition to the issue of meningitis, Giannis Karvelis also referred to the plan that will be implemented this year by the 6th Ministry of Education, the three-day carnival, which includes the following:
*The emergency departments of the city’s two major hospitals, i.e. the University and “Agios Andreas” will be put on full operational readiness, as will the “Karamandaneio” children’s hospital.
* The Northern Sector Health Center will be operational on the weekend from 12 noon to 12 midnight, with all the necessary medical specialties.
*In cooperation with the EES, an emergency clinic will be developed in the “heart” of the city, specifically in Georgiou Square.
* A psychologist and a social worker will be present at the medical offices of Georgiou Square for possible cases of panic attacks, due to the large crowds.
*There will be assistance from the EES with volunteer rescuers and doctors.
*The 6th Ministry of Health will assist with medical personnel, medical equipment and health material.
*There will be cooperation with EKAV for the development of the business plan.
Furthermore, Yannis Karvelis pointed out that “there will be direct contact and a communication link between the 6th Ministry of Health, hospitals, EKAB, the Hellenic Red Cross and the KY of the northern sector, for the smooth operation of the plan”, while all the volunteers who will offer the services on the days of the Carnival there will be around 200 people.
