A noticeable decrease in turnover was registered by the retail trade of Patras, in the Easter market. The negative result will be seen in the box office at the end of the season, but, already recorded data, with influences from inflationary pressures that send negative messages.
Supermarkets and food stores took the biggest share of the festive turnover this Easter, while commercial businesses waited until the last two days to perform better.
The president of the Federation of Trade and Entrepreneurship of Peloponnese, SW Greece and Ionia, Giorgos Vagenas, emphasized to “Peloponnisos” that the first four-month consolidated data available to him show a drop of 30%.
According to Mr. Vagenas, the figures also include businesses with a turnover of more than 100,000 euros as well as the fuel sectors, large chains and branded brands. If all these sectors are excluded, then the total drop in turnover in small retail trade may exceed 50%, the president of OEEDP pointed out, pointing out that this was the worst four-month period experienced by the sector in the last 25 years.
“Precision has hit all households and there is no disposable income for consumers to spend. Things are very difficult. Not enough money, we are going to crash the market. Many stores will not be able to stay open. Take a walk through the main streets and you can understand what is going on” said Giorgos Vagenas.
“When we said these things, they called us excessive”, emphasized the president of OESP, pointing out the need to take initiatives. He said that the recent revival of regulations in the Tax Office did not produce any results, as only a percentage of 0.5% was able to make use of it.
“If no moves are made to relieve small trade, what follows is a nightmare. After Easter we have to look once more at the situation and what needs to be done. Unfortunately, no one listens to us”, stressed Giorgos Vagenas.
