A few words regarding the project
Marika Ninou and Tzimis Markou meet once more in the legendary tavern “Tzimis the Fat” and together they unfold the fictional life of the Turkish woman who made history in Greek song. The stage turns into a tavern and the spectators become patrons and witnesses of the most important events and the unknown aspects of the singer’s tragic life.
All this once morest the background of a Greece that is trying to heal its wounds from the first world war and the Asia Minor disaster. Before the Second World War destroyed it, with the occupation, the pestilence, the national division, the civil war. But a Greece that never stops having fun. And to sing. Because Nino’s life is inextricably linked with the course of folk song, with the night life of Athens, the rebetiko and the songs with which we have fun to this day.
Marika Ninou lived a short but turbulent life. He fell in love a lot, he loved a lot, he hurt a lot. She was a special woman, who was shaped by life. A unique blend of explosive personality and tremendous sensitivity. And she left behind a legacy that deserves to be recognized and learned by younger generations.
A bittersweet performance that is a tribute to the refugees of the Asia Minor catastrophe and in particular to the Armenian singer Evangelia Atamian, who was uprooted from her homeland in Asia Minor, grew up in the refugee town of Kokkinia, was rechristened Marika Ninou and was glorified like no other in her time.
Dimitris Karatzias and Eleni Ouzounidou meet once more, following “Psilikatzou”, which was presented for 2 seasons at the VAULT Theater and this time with a true story. For her performance in Psilikatzou, Eleni Ouzounidou was nominated for the Best Female Performance Award at the Audience Theater Awards 2019 of Athenaroma and received the 3rd Best Female Performance Award at the All4fun Audience Awards and the Best Female Performance Award from the Academy of Greek Art Awards .
• The performance is held under the auspices and support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
