The head of the Nationwide E-Real Estates Network Themis Bakas, told “Peloponnisos” that the country is going through a deep housing crisis, with Greece being the champion in housing costs for at least 6 consecutive years among all EU countries.

Patras is the 2nd city in the country with the largest increases in asking rents from 2017 to 2023. In particular, a 50%-55% increase in asking rental prices was recorded in properties suitable for young people and/or students.

According to the above data, a young person should spend 40%-60% of their income on housing costs if it is a studio apartment and/or a two bedroom apartment or 60%-80% of his income if it is a residence suitable for a family. As for the most affordable properties, they are unrenovated 1970-1980 construction.

According to Mr. Baca, at the given time, 446 independent properties (not rooms) are registered in the center of the Achaean capital.
Alongside, Patra is outside the government’s announcements for the construction of new student residences.

These data highlight the immediate need to adopt an integrated-expanded plan that will include immediate measures to curb housing costs.
