Patras: Interest and spending were shared on Black Friday – Shops are open

One was the conclusion in the market of Patras from Black Friday. Fatherland consumers are keeping a close eye on their wallets and expect deeper discounts, confirming retailers’ predictions of a sluggish holiday shopping season.

Consumers no longer seem to be spending at the same pace as they did in the past two years, when the holidays were an opportunity for post-pandemic splurges. The results of the Black Friday sales in the shops of Patras are not yet available, but the estimates of the traders with whom “Peloponnisos” spoke indicate that the market did not do what was done in previous years.

According to the president of the Trade Association of Patras, most traders in the center appear rather restrained, because there was not the turnover that was done in previous years. With the exception of the queues observed in some department stores in the center, there was not the traffic of previous years, especially in the electronics stores.

Nevertheless, Friday was a day of good trade compared to the barren autumn period, although in the afternoon the weather conditions did not favor shoppers going downtown.

In addition, consumers have to account for the high cost of living, which, according to Mr. Zafeiropoulos, is a harbinger of what stores should expect for the Christmas holidays.

The dealer of electrical and electronic devices, Fotis Doubris, emphasized to “P” that the Black Friday market was divided throughout the week. There was interest from consumers, but it was like an ordinary sales period and nothing more.

“People show that they are financially stressed and it is not easy to manage increased expenses and shopping. Purchasing power has decreased and purchases are being targeted,” he said.
