Patras: Fraud in the “name” of the Region, what the president of the Regional Development Fund says to “P” – 2024-07-19 21:59:57

Pretending to be employees of the Regional Development Fund of the Region of Western Greecepersons unknown to the service, seek through telephone calls to detach details of business and private bank accounts dealing with PTA, in order to extort sums of money from them.

Targeted by would-be fraudsters, according to information from “Peloponnisos”, a technical company was found in Patras, with a man communicating with the accounting office and pretending to be an “accounting error” informed regarding the refund of approximately 9,000 euros. The phone call aroused the contractor’s suspicions, so he contacted the employee who works with the Regional Development Fund and found out that it was a fraud.

«They were incredibly well-read, they had studied it. They found information, names of employees, amounts of contracts through “Transparency” and used them in order to be believed” stated to “P” the director of the Western Greece Regional Development Fund Christos TzomakasHe pointed out that no executive or employee of PDE and PTA has not requested and will not request any person or business by telephone, personal or other information, and for this reason it is recommended that traders be particularly careful in their transactions. As Mr. Tzomakas announceda similar incident of “baiting” the corresponding service was recorded in the Region of Epirus.

The methodology followed by the perpetrators, as found, is that they use information related to the accounts or documents that have been paid by the service, aiming to intercept personal bank details of individuals and businesses.

In a statement issued by the Region, citizens who have been recipients of fraudulent attempts are invited to report it on the telephone numbers 2613-613661, 2613-613663 and 2613-613681.
