Patras: Bright example workers of the “Ark of Love”

The good face of our society was illuminated by three fellow citizens. Three workers at the “Kivotos tis Agapi” Foundation with a most important act of love.

“Peloponnisos” published, yesterday, the baptism of little Taxiarchis, a child of only 15 months who was abandoned by his parents at the University Hospital of Patras, as he was born with a rare disease. Three months ago, he was transferred to the foundation “Kivotos tis Agapi” for hospitality, at which point a shocking love story begins for the little Brigadier who never felt the caress of the woman who brought him into the world. Now the petite Taxiarchis is locked in the loving arms of the three women who also became his godmothers, Toula Michalitsianou (childcare provider), Nancys Sgoura (nurse – childcare provider) and Georgia Halkiopoulou (childcare provider – childcare provider).

“He came to us three months ago. Today our little one is 15 months old. She is a pretty little face. When we held him in our arms, we felt him like our own child. He was so weak,” Mrs. Michalitsianou describes us.

To our question how they decided to become his godparents and in a way adopt him, he answered us:
“We became very sensitive to the idea that he is an abandoned child. A baby with a serious health issue who needs care, but above all love. So we decided to give him something more. Let’s become his godmothers, so that we can take him to our home sometimes. How can you resist such a little creature? All the staff of the institution who participated in the baptism have the same feelings.”

In fact, Mrs. Michalitsianou emphasizes that “this mystery was special for all of us. Last Sunday was a special day for us, for the foundation for our families who encouraged us and supported us in our decision to become his godparents. I can tell you that the little Brigadier bound us all in one family and one hug around him.”

We remind you that the sacrament of baptism was performed in an atmosphere of deep emotion in the Holy Church of Agia Marina in Patras by the priest Fr. three women.

As we have highlighted through our series of publications, the “Kivotos tis Agapi” hosts approximately 60 children with multiple disabilities. With very few exceptions, these children have been abandoned by their parents. Abandonment which even goes so far as to deny that they have a child when the institution attempts to inform them of their health status.

This means that for all these children the staff of the “Ark of Love” is their family.

“It is not an easy task. This is not a simple job, but a life’s work. It takes strength of soul to be able to respond to the care of these children,” Ms. Michalitsianou tells us, adding:

“Our care is their daily hygiene, their bathing, their feeding. the caresses, the words of love. Our goal is to give hope to every child we have in the institution. The problems, as you know, are many. Fortunately, the local community supports us and we can keep it open.”
