The works for the completion of the Urban Renewal of the Upper Town in Patras are expected to last one more year. The projects may have been in the works for years, and the original deadline and two more extensions have already passed, but it looks like there’s still a long way to go.
Last Monday the municipal council of Patras approved her third extension of the deadline for the completion of the works until June 30, 2025. As known, initially, the work found the ancient findings as an obstacle in four placesbut in most cases the difficulties have been overcome and work will soon resume.
However, there is this time and the more general problem faced by many public projects financed by the NSRFas there is a suspension of payments that does not allow the contractors to continue the work.

In the case of the Upper City, even though the contractor had demonstrated that it has the ability to move the project forward at a rapid pace when there were no unexpected findings or payment difficulties, the situation is quite difficult.
Most everyone hopes that the procedures will be unblocked and that by the summer of 2025 the Upper Town will have a different looksince by then the restoration works of the Roman Conservatory are expected to have been completed and the pace of reconstruction of the Old Municipal Hospital, which is being converted into an exhibition-museum space, has intensified.
