Path of Exile 2: A Standalone Game with a Major Addition: Trial of the Ancestors | ExileCon 2023 Announcements and Insights on Competing with Diablo IV

Grinding Gear Games held the ExileCon 2023 festival, during which it announced that Path of Exile 2 will become a standalone game, and Path of Exile will release a major addition, Trial of the Ancestors. The future game is called the main competitor of Diablo IV, but the developers themselves believe that they do not fight on the same field. In an interview with GRYOnline.pl, Path of Exile creative director Jonathan Rogers stated that the release of Diablo IV strengthened the studio in its design decisions. He noted who the team managed to avoid the traps that Blizzard fell into. I would say that Diablo IV is a completely different game, and Blizzard leaned a lot more towards MMOs, which we didn’t. So yes, the game is really very different from ours. When I play Diablo IV, I don’t even get the impression that it’s an action role-playing game. I rather see the atmosphere of an MMO in it. So I think we’re going in different directions, and that’s good for us because we’re doing our thing and they’re doing theirs. Although the carpets they have are damn beautiful. I definitely want to learn their carpet making skills. Diablo IV recently launched its first season, and many players say they didn’t get what they expected from it. But if Jonathan Rogers is to be believed, they may find their dream game in Path of Exile 2 when it releases in 2024.
