Change the strap on your Apple Watch and nothing happens…. Whether you put on the Boucle unique model before going for a run or a Hermès leather in anticipation of an evening, the watch does not care and does not change its operation in any way.

And brevet d’Apple imagine making the watch react according to the bracelet installed thanks to the integration of an identifier. The document focuses above all on the different ways of detecting it: this could be done by means of the optical sensors under the watch or through the two side fasteners.

But whatever the method, the most interesting is the result. Just as we would launch a shortcut, the bracelet once clipped and recognized would cause a cascade of actions on the watch.

This could change the dial – a more sporty one for a Sport bracelet, a more classic one for a leather model – activate complications related to health monitoring or even adjust the general color of the dial to match that of the bracelet.

By extension, one could go so far as to associate a mode of concentration on one’s iPhone with certain types of bracelets. This patent was filed in May 2020 and was granted on May 30, 2023.

This idea of ensuring that the bracelet is no longer a passive accessory runs through the minds of Apple developers and designers. Another patent, filed in 2021, already evoked this idea of modeling certain settings of the watch according to the bracelet installed.

Apple Watch straps could gain an NFC chip to quickly change dials
