Passing Quarantine, 11 Athletes Join PB Djarum

A total of 11 athletes succeeded in winning the Djarum Badminton Scholarship and confirmed themselves to join the PB Djarum club. They were selected after going through a series of selections for the 2024 PB Djarum General Audition, which started from the screening round, tournament, to the quarantine stage. The PB Djarum General Auditions which took place last September were attended by 1,966 participants from various parts of the country.

The 11 new athletes are divided into three male U-11 athletes, two female U-11 athletes, two male KU11 athletes, one female KU11 athlete, one male KU12 athlete, and two female KU12 athletes. They come from various regions in Indonesia, including Ketapang Regency, Palembang City, Deli Serdang Regency, Surabaya City, to Denpasar City,

Chairman of the 2024 PB Djarum General Audition Talent Search Team, Sigit Budiarto, said that the athletes were selected because they succeeded in meeting the criteria set by the Talent Search Team and the PB Djarum coaches. The comprehensive assessment carried out during the quarantine period includes good technical abilities, super mentality, to having a fighter’s spirit that never gives up.

“We welcome the new members of PB Djarum. Based on our observations throughout quarantine, they are the best of the best and exactly what the club needs. For those who haven’t succeeded, don’t be discouraged, because there are still other opportunities to join PB Djarum, either through the General Audition or Special Audition. “Continue the enthusiasm to become a champion,” said Sigit, Saturday (12/10).

To the young athletes who have just joined, he advised them to maximize their potential and talent so that they can carry on the baton of badminton glory in the country. Not only providing comprehensive coaching, PB Djarum will also routinely send its athletes to compete in national and international level tournaments. In this way, Sigit hopes that the athletes who graduate from the 2024 PB Djarum General Auditions will practice actively to improve their talents and abilities so that they can achieve proud achievements.

One of the athletes who succeeded in achieving his dream of joining PB Djarum is Marcel Jhonatan from Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan from KU12 Men. He is grateful that his efforts during the selection series for the 2024 PB Djarum General Audition yielded positive results. Moreover, at last year’s General Audition, Marcel had also reached the quarantine stage, but had not succeeded in joining PB Djarum.

“I am very happy to finally be a member of my favorite club, namely PB Djarum. I promise that I will seriously carry out the training and all the instructions from the coach. “My dream is to be able to make Indonesia proud on the world stage, like my idol Kevin Sanjaya,” said Marcel.

Another participant who successfully won the Djarum Badminton Scholarship was Keysha Almirah Dewi from Surabaya, East Java from U-11 Girls. The athlete who was born on January 7 2015 is grateful that his dream of becoming a world badminton player with PB Djarum is starting to be realized. Moreover, he received full support from both his parents and his home club, namely the PB Junior Badminton Club Surabaya.

“I am very happy to be a member of PB Djarum. I am grateful to my parents and clubs who have supported and educated me so that I can be an athlete at my best. Hopefully by entering PB Djarum, I can become a world player. “I will improve my physical abilities to be better in the future,” said Keysha.

Meanwhile, PB Djarum Men’s Athlete Coach, Ferry, revealed that the badminton players who took part in the quarantine stage had a fighting spirit and were able to undergo every test from the coach to the fullest. Even though they are still 12 years old or under, their enthusiasm and fighting power to achieve their dream of joining PB Djarum and becoming professional athletes is very high.

“We appreciate the athletes who have sweated throughout the General Auditions series, especially during the quarantine stage. So that during the four weeks of quarantine, we as trainers in providing training to them were also delivered well. “And hopefully this fighting spirit will continue to burn as long as you become a PB Djarum athlete,” said Ferry.

PB Djarum Women’s Athlete Coach, Roy Djojo Effendy, conveyed a similar thing. He said that the athletes who succeeded in becoming the PB Djarum squad should not be complacent, because the journey to become a world badminton player is still quite long.

“At this year’s General Auditions, one of the things we are proud of as trainers is that the number of female participants has also increased. Thus, it shows a positive trend that badminton is increasingly popular with women. “We are optimistic that this is in line with quality, especially those we have curated to pass the 2024 PB Djarum General Auditions,” explained Roy.

KU11 Girls:

  • Syadza Bella Zerlinda Jagadita – Purworejo Regency, Central Java

KU12 Men:

  • Marcel Jhonatan – Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan

KU12 Girls:

  • Laura Leydisya – Pati Regency, Central Java
  • Ketut Aira Cerlania – Denpasar City, Bali
