“There was no longer a pilot on the plane”. By this expression, Sébastien tell it Calvary that he experienced, on the night of July 25 to 26, 2023, when he returned from two weeks of holiday in santander in Spain.
An expression which is to be taken in the figurative sense, because there was indeed a pilot in the plane of the company Ryanair who had to do Santander-Beauvais (Oise). But with two hours late on takeoff, not everything went as planned that evening…
The plane landed in Liège instead of Beauvais
“We left around 10:40 p.m. from Spain and arrived following midnight above Beauvais. But we were told the airport was farm “says Sébastien toNews Oise.
The aircraft was unable to land at Beauvais due to the curfew set up from midnight to 5am. The flight was then diverted to Liège in Belgium, where Sébastien and his family landed around 00:40.
Buses had to pick them up
“We were told that bus would pick us up to take us back to Beauvais or in Paris. But in the end no bus came. The plane crew left leaving us there, ”says the inhabitant of a town in Val-d’Oise on the border with Oise.
“The only people we might ask for explanations were the police. They told us it was happening relatively often”he adds.
We received an SMS around 2 a.m. telling us that nothing was possible and that we had to manage to get back, on our own.

Specifically, the message sent by Ryanair and received by Sébastien indicated: “we cannot get you to your destination and your rooms for the night. We regret this result and suggest that you to organize your own transport ».

“We had a sleepless night”
Sebastian (just like the hundred other passengers of this flight) then had to find in an emergency a fallback. He explains that “people have paid €800 to take a taxi home”.
Our traveler and his relatives have on their privileged side the train. By taxi, they went to Liège station, then took the train to Brussels, around 4 a.m., before taking a second train to Paris. “We got home at 11 a.m. We had a sleepless night”he breathes.
“No one was there to take care of us”
“We had regarding 400€ to return from Liègemore expensive than plane tickets”, adds Sébastien, marked by a ” annoyance on the attitude of Ryanair ».
There was no longer a pilot in the plane. The fact of planting us there in the middle of the night, and washing our hands of that, is not normal. At Ryanair, no one was there to take care of us. The feeling of having been abandoned.

Contacted by News Oise, Ryanair explains that this flight “was delayed following the aircraft was forced to divert to a previous sector due to strong winds ».
“Passengers were not abandoned”, refutes Ryanair
“After this first delay, this flight was then forced to divert to Liège due to strict curfew from Beauvais airport”, indicates the Irish company.
But Ryanair refutes any idea of abandonment: “passengers have not been abandoned Liege “. The airline explains that “the availability of transport was limited” to ensure the return by bus of passengers.
Passengers were given the choice of overnight accommodation in Liège with transport to Beauvais airport the following day, or arranging individual transport from Liège to Beauvais airport that night and claiming reimbursement expenses.
Ryanair
A request of refund done by Sebastian. “I’m waiting to see if we’re really going to be,” he says. This Monday, July 31, his request is still “in progress” being processed.
In December 2022, travelers told us of a similar situation, during a flight initially planned between Amman in Jordan and Beauvais.
