BRAZIL.- A plane with capacity for about seventy passengers crashed this Friday in a residential area in the Brazilian municipality of Vinhedoin the state of São Pauloreported the local Fire Department.
According to Globonews, there were 61 people on board, including 58 passengers and four crew members.
Seven fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene to deal with the accident, the agency said.
“Sixty-two people died in the accident,” said Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in X, shortly after the crash.
Colonel Cássio de Araújo de Freitas, of the São Paulo Military Police, said there were no casualties on the ground because the plane crashed in “an empty area” within the Recanto Florido condominium, a high-end residential area.
Sources at São Paulo airport informed Globonews that it is a ATR-72-500 twin-engine aircraft from the airline Voepassand who was traveling from the city of Rattlesnake to Sao Paulo. It was about 80 kilometers to reach Guarulhos airport, his destination.

Videos posted on social media show the aircraft spinning around in circles before crashing with a loud bang in the municipality of Vinhedo, near São Paulo.
According to the specialized website Flightradar, the plane had made two more flights during the morning of this Friday before crashing.
