“Big malfunction in Brussels national. The impression of being held prisoner at the baggage exit. Nice welcome following a 17-hour flight”, lamented André this Monday at 9:30 a.m. via the orange Alert us button. “All the suitcases are searched and people are complaining,” added this angry and above all tired passenger following a long journey.

“Zaventem customs have decided to annoy travelers. Thousands of people stuck”, Jeff confirmed a few minutes later. “Impossible to leave Zaventem airport”Michel also complains.

From 8:30 a.m. this Monday morning, customs officers effectively carried out spontaneous action. “This is a work-to-rule. Customs officers are carrying out thorough checks on arrival. So there are lines forming in the arrivals hall. Usually it’s quite smooth there . Many passengers have to wait to be able to leave the airport”confirmed around 9:30 a.m. Nathalie Pierard, spokesperson for Brussels Airport.

Half an hour later, around 10 a.m., the action ended. “Families with children were very upset and passengers were unable to stand. Around 10 a.m., the customs officers stopped searching everything and the lines were reduced,” testified André who finally had to wait 1h30 before being able to leave the airport.

For the moment, the causes of this discontent are not known. “We have not received any demands. All we know is that this is a 100% controlled action,” indicated Florence Angelici, spokesperson for the FPS Finances, to which customs officers depend.

According to André, other actions might take place this Monday. “A lady who passed by us mentioned 2-3 new actions today.” Information that is not confirmed.
