“Passe Navigo scam”: what is this increasingly widespread scam?

Ile-de-France Mobilités wanted to warn about a new phishing attempt carried out by fraudsters around the Navigo Pass.

Beware of this email. Since the beginning of February, a scam around the Passe Navigo has been circulating. This is a phishing attempt, also known as “phishing”, consisting of extracting money from holders of a Paris transport ticket.

The scam keeps spinning

To achieve his ends, the scammer sends an e-mail with the subject: “Navigo – Subscription suspended”. The recipient is then encouraged to solve the problem by clicking on a link. A maneuver not to be carried out, as recalled by Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) and the specialized site “Signal Arnaques”.

While it is currently difficult to know the number of victims of this scam, the organizing authority for public transport in the Ile-de-France (IDFM), which issues the Passe Navigo, has recalled its communication methods on its site.

Indeed, in the event of non-payment, an SMS is always sent to the customer beforehand by email, in order to “inform him of the status of his contract and the steps to be taken”.

As a reminder, Ile-de-France Mobilités announced this Thursday, February 9 during a press conference, that holders of the Navigo pass would be reimbursed for the equivalent of half a month, or even more. Compensation justified by the “sudden deterioration in the quality of transport” between September and December 2022.
