The statement continues as follows: “After the unjustified delays in the activation of rights, the unjustified cuts in the direct support of farmers and the prevailing opacity, the inability of the ministry to activate the sectoral programs has come to be added. The programs of the “Organizations of Olive Growers” – OEF, have been implemented for decades and have significantly contributed to the modernization and quality upgrade of olive cultivation.
The government, after delaying the announcement of the program for more than a year, is asking the olive growers to submit four-year programs within fifteen days! Apart from the short period of time that has allowed only those who may have had inside information to prepare, the announcement has significant changes that essentially,
· leave out small and medium-sized cooperatives and producer groups;
· they do not take into account the parenchyma of the olive
· the reduction of production due to drought and the climate crisis
· mountainous and disadvantaged areas.
For the smooth operation of the program, for the benefit of olive cultivation, it is necessary to extend the deadline for filing and to consult with the producers so that the necessary changes can be made. Olive cultivation is too serious a matter to be left in the hands of the apprentice wizards of the Mitsotakis government.”
