PASOK cannot afford to lose this opportunity either

“My decision to be a candidate for the president of PASOK has nothing to do with any personal ambition or the will to register a certain percentage, so that I can negotiate it on the “party stock exchange”. I’ve never thought like that and I’ve always put WE before ME. My candidacy comes to serve the goals that PASOK must have in the next period, goals that are ambitious and realistic under conditions. I appreciate that with my drive and stubbornness, the clear positions I have always expressed and my clear political, ideological stance, I can contribute to their achievement”, states the candidate for the president of PASOK – KINAL Nadia Giannakopoulou in her article for APE-MPE .

As Mrs. Giannakopoulou says, the upcoming elections in PASOK-KINAL are “very decisive” as “they take place at a time when the political scene is characterized by fluidity and a significant part of citizens are looking for a new body of political representation”.

“We have no right to lose this opportunity, which may be the last. PASOK must change radically to be able to convince that it can change the course of the country for the benefit of society. To proceed with the necessary changes in its leadership, in its institutional democratic way of functioning, addressing society with clear political discourse, clear proposals, appearing with a clear physiognomy and opposition policy befitting a social democratic, progressive, reformist party. These elements were missing and that is why we could not escape from the constellation of small steps that do not create momentum, appearing more as another voice of protest and not as a party with the characteristics of a party of power, not convincing that we have an alternative proposal for governance” he emphasizes to APE -MPE the candidate for the presidency of PASOK-KINAL.

And he concludes by saying: “PASOK itself must become, as it has always been, the party of Social Democracy, of the Center Left, of the Reforms. A faction with governmental characteristics must be formed. This is our bet and we must win it”

The following is the article by N. Giannakopoulou in APE-MPE

“My decision to be a candidate for the president of PASOK has nothing to do with any personal ambition or the will to register a certain percentage, so that I can trade it on the “party stock exchange”. I’ve never thought like that and I’ve always put WE before ME. My candidacy comes to serve the goals that PASOK must have in the next period, goals that are ambitious and realistic under conditions. I appreciate that with my drive and stubbornness, the clear positions I have always expressed and my clear political, ideological stance, I can contribute to their achievement.

These elections are very decisive for the leadership. They take place at a time when the political scene is characterized by fluidity and a significant section of citizens are looking for a new body of political representation. Let’s not forget the resounding message of abstention in the European elections, which reached 60%. The ND is no longer the party of 41% but of 28%, a percentage from which it is trying to escape but cannot, since a significant section that supported it is now keeping its distance, disappointed by the administrative and reforming weakness of the Government. SYRIZA is in a perpetual spiral, self-dissolving and falling in the polls at dizzying rates. More citizens turn their gaze towards us and want to see the messages they sent us too.

We have no right to lose this opportunity which may be the last. These elements were missing and that is why we could not escape from the constellation of small steps that do not create momentum, appearing more as another voice of protest and not as a party with the characteristics of a party of power, not convincing that we have an alternative proposal for governance.

This is what the moment demands, this is what society expects, this is our bet and we must win it now, because now the political associations are being formed, because life does not wait. With the autonomous PASOK that will appeal to the wide range of citizens who are from the fringes of the ND to SYRIZA. I don’t believe in blind dates, in partnerships that are made theoretically and for which there are no elementary political, programmatic conditions. This discussion disorients PASOK, it damages it.

PASOK itself must become, as it has always been, the party of Social Democracy, of the Center Left, of Reforms. A faction with governmental characteristics must be formed. This is our bet and we have to win it.”
