A serious accident occurred on Friday at around 1:15 p.m. on the Westautobahn in the direction of Vienna. Near St. Valentin, a van crashed into a semi-trailer. The impact was so severe that the small truck became wedged in the heavy vehicle. The driver had to be rescued from the deformed vehicle by emergency services from the Haag and St. Valentin fire departments. He was treated at the scene of the accident and then taken to hospital.

The fire brigade recovered the van and the semi-trailer was able to continue its journey to the nearest workshop. The A1 was partially closed in the area of the incident site for the duration of the operation and there were delays.
