In hours of this Friday, Metro de Santiago reported the partial closure of certain stations, due to a series of damage that occurred in their premises.
Through social networks, the official transport account explained that a group of protesters reached the República Line 1 station, “affecting the turnstiles, validators and one of the elevators.”
“Due to the foregoing, some stations carry out partial closures or preventive controlled access to protect the safety of Metro passengers and workers,” the agency said.
Along with the statement, they added the following: “We reject and condemn the acts of vandalism that occurred this week and we ask to take care of the subway, a service that belongs to everyone.”
Update: during the followingnoon the stations República Line 1, Santa Ana Line 5 and Plaza de Armas Line 3 were closed, which were restored as the hours passed.
Parallel to this situation, due to a technical failure, the Line 5 service was partially suspended, which was enabled at 5:40 p.m.
Recently, the agency reported that the entire network is available, although controlled or partial access is handled preventively at certain stations.
