Part of the roof of the Ghelamco Arena flies away: the meeting between Ghent and Seraing postponed

Belgium is subject to strong winds from storm Eunice. The Pro League has announced that the match scheduled for Friday evening between La Gantoise and Seraing has been postponed. “Given the bad weather conditions and in order to guarantee the safety of players, collaborators and spectators, the match La Gantoise – RFC Seraing tonight is postponed”, wrote the Pro League.

The architect of the city of Ghent went on site to assess the extent of the damage. The roof of the Ghelamco Arena had already been damaged during the Ciara storm. 300 square meters of the roof then collapsed.

“Due to the deteriorating weather conditions in the Ghent region and the fact that the safety of players and spectators can no longer be guaranteed, schedule manager Nils Van Brantegem has decided to cancel tonight’s game”, added La Gantoise in a short press release.

On images circulating on social networks, we can see pieces of the roof of the Ghelamco Arena which landed on cars parked in the parking lot of the stadium.

Lierse-Westerlo also postponed due to the storm

The opening match of the 21st day of the 1B Pro League between Lierse and Westerlo on Friday evening has also been postponed due to storm Eunice, the Pro League announced on Friday. “Given the bad weather conditions and in order to guarantee the safety of players, collaborators and spectators, the Lierse-Westerlo match tonight is also postponed,” said the Pro League on Twitter.
