Fine particles accumulate
The weather conditions of the past few days have caused fine particles to accumulate in the air, especially in the south of the country where concentrations exceed certain thresholds, the Environment Administration said on Wednesday. Thus, on Tuesday, the daily threshold of 50µg/m³ was exceeded at the Esch-sur-Alzette measuring station, to reach 53µg/m3. This Wednesday, this threshold might once more be exceeded in the south of the country, before an expected drop in fine particle concentrations from Thursday.
The triggering of a threshold means that “there is a risk to human health for particularly sensitive groups”, such as people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, heart or respiratory failure, asthmatics, etc. It is therefore advisable for these people to take their precautions and avoid outings and prolonged physical activities in the open air.
It is also recommended that citizens favor public transport and carpooling, avoid open fires and burn waste in the open air, which is in any case prohibited by law.
