Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirms in his private sessions that he was “forced” to nominate the head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh, “in order to get the issue of the presidential elections out of the stalemate,” according to “Nidaa Al-Watan,” because of what he described as “the Christian forces’ refusal of prior dialogue to agree on a candidate who would win with the support of the majority of the parliamentary blocs.” However, he confirms that he will call an election session “as soon as the nomination of a figure other than Suleiman is announced.”

After opposition deputies agreed on the name of Jihad Azour, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told Al-Liwaa: I will call for a session of the parliament, but I will set the date following reviewing what MPs Michel Moawad and Mark Daou said and in light of my agenda. Explaining that he studies the timing carefully.

And regarding his assessment of the positions of the two deputies, and will the process of electing the president be prolonged? Berri said: Unfortunately, there is no consensus in the country, and when there is consensus, things will clear up.
