Parliament passed a new bill on social media monitoring

The Turkish Parliament has approved a new bill on social media monitoring, with the approval of the bill, the Turkish government has gained the power to control social media.

Under the new law, major social media companies such as Facebook and Twitter will be required to open their offices in Turkey. Complaints can be registered.

According to the law, if social media organizations fail to do so, they can be fined and their bandwidth will be reduced in addition to stopping advertising.

The bill states that representatives of social media organizations will be bound to act on any complaint or objection within 48 hours or give reasons, while similarly if a social media organization does not provide the required content within 24 hours. If it is not deleted from the platform, the responsibility for the losses caused by it will also be imposed on the said institution.

The news agency says that the social media companies will have to obey the orders of the Turkish court on specific content, while heavy fines can be imposed on the social media companies for violating the court order.
