parliament approves reshuffle involving 13 ministers

The lower house of the Egyptian Parliament approved on Saturday the ministerial reshuffle, concerning 13 ministers, decided by the head of state Abdel-Fattah Al-Sissi.

The reshuffle, which was approved in a special session of the House of Representatives, involves the appointment of new ministers of Tourism and Antiquities, Higher Education, Health and Population, Education, Commerce and Industry, Water Resources and Irrigation, Emigration, Labor and Immigration, Culture, Local Development, Public Affairs Sector, Military Production as well as Civil Aviation, the public news site Ahram Online reported.

In a brief statement, Mr. Al-Sisi said the cabinet reshuffle was aimed at “revitalizing the performance of the government on important issues inside and outside the country in order to protect the interests of the state. and services provided to Egyptian citizens”.

After deliberating with the Prime Minister, Mr. Al-Sisi asked the House of Representatives to hold a session earlier in the day to discuss the cabinet reshuffle.

A two-thirds majority is required for the President’s reshuffle decision to be passed by Parliament.
