Around a hundred new council flats are to be built on Ichagasse in the 21st district – there is currently a parking lot on the site. According to the city, the project is currently in the design phase. However, initial preliminary work such as test drilling and measurements on the site are to be carried out shortly. It is planned for the end of 2023 – the new municipal building should then be finished at the end of 2025.
Sealed areas used for new construction
The current parking spaces will not disappear, but will go underground: a barrier-free underground car park will be built under the new municipal building. “In the future, more and more sealed areas will be used for the construction of new municipal housing. In this way, the city creates additional affordable living space and at the same time saves land use,” says City Councilor Kathrin Gaal (SPÖ).
The new residential complex in Ichagasse will have a comb-shaped development with four to five floors as well as green and open spaces. Planned are one- to four-room apartments, shared rooms are planned according to Wiener Wohnen on the ground floor. Reservations for the project are possible with the Wiener Wohnticket.
Residents can still get involved
According to the city, the residents have already been informed regarding the construction project, and their suggestions should be considered “as best as possible” in the detailed planning and implementation. An information event is planned for late summer this year.
