Exclusive Interview: Park Soo-ji on Embracing Theater After Weight Loss and Divorce
archyde News: Park Soo-ji, welcome, and thank you for speaking with us today. Your journey has been nothing short of inspirational. can you tell us, what spurred your decision to pursue acting?
Park Soo-ji: Thank you for having me. It’s been a long road, but I’m incredibly grateful for where I am now. for a long time, I didn’t feel like I had a voice, or the strength to express my feelings in a healthy, meaningful way. My dramatic weight loss was huge, both physically and emotionally. I enrolled in acting classes as a way to explore those feelings, to develop a new form of self-expression.
The Transformation & the Stage: A New Chapter
Archyde News: You’ve been incredibly open about your weight loss journey, losing 57 kg (approximately 126 pounds). What was the moast significant change you experienced, besides the physical transformation and the health benefits?
Park Soo-ji: Beyond the improved health, it was a shift in my mindset. For so long,I hid. Now,I feel a responsibility to live openly and to encourage others too. The divorce obviously had a challenging, unexpected impact, but I focused on the weight-loss goal, and that ultimately changed how I approach relationships and my own capabilities. It was a shift in everything, a new beginning. I wanted more, not just health, but a purpose beyond my own small circle.
Facing Personal Challenges and Inspiring Others
Archyde News: Your openness about life challenges, including your divorce, has really resonated online. How important is it for you to connect with your audience in that capacity?
Park Soo-ji: Extremely. When I was going through tough times, I felt so alone. The YouTube community, in particular, has been a safe place. Seeing other people’s stories, and having them share thier journey with me through comments has been very humbling. It reminds me that we are all human, and can make decisions together.I want people to know that it’s okay to be vulnerable, to seek help, and to redefine themselves at any stage of life and to find joy, even after facing incredible pain.
Archyde News: That’s profoundly moving. You’ve been in front of cameras previously, notably on the ‘Philly Couple’ YouTube Channel. Is there a difference between that and performing on stage? Does the live audience provide anything new?
Park Soo-ji: Absolutely. Although I have some experience from “Philly Couple” it’s completely different. Acting is about embodying a character, telling their story through emotions and physical presence. There’s an energy exchange with a live audience that is exhilarating. It’s an immediate connection, and it motivates me in ways I never expected.
Looking Ahead: A Message of Hope
Archyde News: What advice would you give to others who may be facing similarly significant life changes or considering a career change later in life?
Park soo-ji: Believe in yourself. It starts with a goal, creating a plan, and then doing one small step. And be kind to yourself. There will be setbacks, but don’t let them define you.I’ve found true freedom in vulnerability, and the willingness to reach out. Pursuing theater, and everything, is not about perfection. It’s about progress, and the continuous process of growth. And I want people to be able to do the same.
Archyde News: Thank you. It’s genuinely inspiring. Lastly, how do you want audiences to feel when thay watch you on stage?
Park Soo-ji: I hope they feel something real. Maybe a moment of recognition, a spark of motivation, to believe they can embrace the most authentic version of their lives. It’s a chance to share a human experience, and that’s what I hope to accomplish.
Archyde News: Beautifully stated.Thank you so much for your time, Park Soo-ji.We wish you the best in your theatrical endeavors.
Park Soo-ji: Thank you.
