A French prosecutor said on Thursday that the policeman who killed a 17-year-old in a Paris suburb on Tuesday is under formal investigation for murder.

The correspondent of “Sky News Arabia” quoted the Public Prosecutor as saying: “Two investigations have been opened. One is for refusing to comply with police orders for the car to stop, and the other is on suspicion of premeditated murder. Eyewitnesses are being listened to and surveillance camera recordings are being reviewed.”

The killing of the North African at a traffic checkpoint sparked two nights of violence across France, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to hold a crisis meeting with senior government ministers on Thursday.

Macron denounced the violence that erupted across the country for the second day in a row, saying it was “unjustified”.

Yesterday, Wednesday, he stated that the young man’s shooting death was “unforgivable.”

For his part, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin revealed that 150 people were arrested during violent demonstrations following the killing of the young man called “Nael”.

And the French Minister of the Interior announced today, Thursday, the deployment of “40,000 policemen and security personnel, starting this evening.”
