Paris Olympics: The new sport of breaking or break dancing is introduced for the first time

Organizers of this year’s Paris Olympics are holding a new event called breaking, or breakdancing, to attract young fans.

Paris 2024 official website According to Paris organizers have made it clear that they aim to appeal to younger fans by featuring sports that ‘closely connect with young people and reward creativity and athletic performance.’

Breaking is a style of dance that originated in the United States in the 1970s. Also known as breakdancing or breakdancing, this sport was particularly popular in the African American and Puerto Rican communities at the time.

It took shape at the parties of the Bronx, which emerged from hip-hop culture. It is characterized by acrobatic movements, stylized footwork and key roles played by DJs and MCs (master of ceremonies) during fights.

In the 1990s, international competitions were held for the first time around the world, popularizing the dance form among both the hip-hop community and the general public.

Review of Rules

The Paris 2024 Games will feature two breaking events, one for men and one for women, where 16 B-boys and 16 B-girls will go head-to-head in spectacular solo events.

Athletes will use a combination of power moves – including windmills, 6-steps and freezes – while adapting their moves to improvise to DJ tunes and to win the judges’ votes and win their first Olympic breaking title.

Braking made her Olympic debut at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. Following its phenomenal success, breaking has been added to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games program as a new sport alongside surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing.

Breaking events will be held on August 9 and 10.

Breaking from the streets of New York has crossed borders, with tournaments held in the Netherlands, South Korea and France. France, the world’s hip-hop heartland, has naturally become the first country to include breaking as an Olympic discipline at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

With over 30 million enthusiasts worldwide, breaking is a sport that is accessible to everyone. Amateurs and professionals alike can do it anywhere and no equipment is required: a pair of shoes and speakers to play music are all that is needed.

The rules for the Paris Olympic Games 2024 are quite simple. 16 B-Girls in the women’s event and 16 B-Boys in the men’s event will compete head-to-head in the finals and try to win Olympic medals for the first time.

During each competition, the players perform consecutively to a musical track, played by a DJ. The player does not know the ZJ and the track.

The favorites for the Paris 2024 Olympics are Lithuanian B-girl Nika and American B-boy Victor. At the end of the year 2023, both these athletes won the gold medal at the World Breaking Championship in Leuven, Belgium.

Among them are 2022 world champion Canadian b-boy Phil Wizard, 2018 Youth Olympics bronze medalist Japanese b-boy Shigax, 2019 and 2022 world champion Japanese b-girls Ami and 2021 world champion Ayumi and European Games 2023 winner Dutch B. Includes Girl India.
