The special opening ceremony of the Paris Summer Olympics started as scheduled on Friday evening. The first boats of the procession on the Seine left the Austerlitz Bridge shortly after 7:30 p.m. The journey passed many sights and onlookers, and despite the rain, the journey continued until it reached the Trocadéro after about six kilometers, directly to the Eiffel Tower. The 33rd edition of the competition will be held there. The Olympic Games were officially declared open.

French President Emmanuel Macron and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach took their seats in the center of the Trocadéro official gallery. The show on the Seine begins with impressive water features and projections on various bridges. Lady Gaga is the first global star to sing on the shore, paying homage to the Cabaret in French. Traditionally, the first boat to carry competitors down the river is the Greek team, followed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) refugee team boat.

206 National Olympic Committees send representatives to the Olympics. According to the French alphabet, Austria is in the first block, together with athletes from Azerbaijan and the Bahamas on the upper deck of the ship. The ÖOC delegation includes 30 athletes and 36 supervisors.

At the head were judoka Michaela Polleres and kayaker Felix Oschmautz as flag bearers. “We are not number one, you can fall behind and we will solve the problem,” Oschmerz said ahead of time. In order to reduce the stress of the journey as much as possible, the Carinthians moved from a remote area to the Olympic Village for two days, hoping to use it for strength training. Due to poor weather forecast – heavy rain was expected in the evening – fewer ÖOC athletes attended the opening ceremony than planned. “I don’t want to get sick,” explained badminton player Collins Philemon.

Others didn’t miss the event, including swimming hopefuls Simon Buch and Martin Espenberg, beach volleyball players Julian Hull and Alexander Horst, tennis player Sebastian O Fner and archer Elizabeth Straka, who had made her Olympic debut the day before and finished 10th, put us in a good starting position for the trials. Taekwondo player Marlene Jahl, European table tennis champion Sofia Polcanova, gymnast Charlize Mörz and kite surfer Valentin Bontus also attended the event.
