Paris Olympics.. Gymnastics legend Simone Biles wins her fifth Olympic gold

FRANCE – Simone Biles won her fifth Olympic gold medal after leading the United States to a crushing victory in the women’s gymnastics team final at Bercy Arena on Tuesday.

The five-member team of Biles, Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hazel Rivera put the United States back on top of the Olympic podium with a total score of 171.296, more than 5.802 points ahead of their closest competitor.

Italy won the silver medal with 165.494 points, its first artistic gymnastics medal in 96 years, while Brazil won the bronze medal with 164.497 points.

With this victory, the US team regained its dominance of the sport with a comprehensive performance in all four disciplines, winning the team gold for the third time in the last four Olympic Games.

Biles’ gold medal was her 38th in her career between the Olympics and the World Championships, extending her record as the most decorated gymnast in history.

The 27-year-old Houston native, the oldest American woman to join an Olympic gymnastics team since the 1950s, showed no signs of the calf injury she aggravated during Sunday’s qualifying session as she performed admirably for the team.
