Paris Olympics.. Egypt joins Morocco in football semi-finals

France – The Egyptian national team qualified for the semi-finals of the football competition at the “Paris 2024” Olympic Games, after defeating Paraguay on penalties 5-4, yesterday, Friday, at the “Velodrome” stadium in Marseille, in the quarter-finals.

The original and extra time of the match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Diego Gomez scoring the first goal for the Paraguayan national team in the 71st minute after he was alone in front of goalkeeper Hamza Alaa and shot powerfully into the net.

The Pharaohs managed to equalize with a wonderful header by Ibrahim Adel three minutes before the end of regular time, specifically in the 87th minute, taking advantage of a cross pass from his teammate Ahmed Sayed “Zizo.”

With this goal, Adel raised his tally to 3 goals in the Olympics, after his wonderful brace against Spain in the final match of the group stage.

The tie continued with a goal for each team, after the two extra halves, so the penalty shootout was resorted to, which smiled on the Pharaohs, after the Egyptian national team goalkeeper blocked the second penalty kick taken by player Marcelo Perez.

With this result, Egypt reached the semi-finals for the third time in its history and the first time in 60 years, after having previously reached the same round in the 1928 and 1964 editions.

The Arabs secured a medal in men’s football at the Paris Olympics, after Egypt and Morocco qualified for the semi-finals.

Next Monday, Egypt will play at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon against the winner of the France-Argentina match in the semi-finals, while Morocco will face Spain in the same round.
