In the monthly economic survey of the Bank of France, business leaders expressed for the first time how they feel about the activities after the legislative elections. Not surprisingly, they are still waiting. The sense of uncertainty that suddenly rebounded the day after the announcement of the dissolution of Parliament has indeed declined, but it has not returned to the level shown before this political turn. “The wait-and-see atmosphere continues,” summed up Olivier Garnier, the chief economist of the central bank.
This summer, the Paris Olympics will bring a breath of fresh air to the activity sector. The Bank of France says that the third quarter should ensure an additional 0.25 percentage points of growth, close to the figure proposed before the dissolution of INSEE (0.3 percentage points). Thus, for the period, economic growth will increase in the range of 0.3% to 0.5%, with activity excluding the Olympics expected to increase slightly by 0.1% to 0.2%.
