[Sina Sports]The International Olympic Committee has released the method for obtaining qualifications for the indoor volleyball event of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Compared with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the promotion plan this time has been greatly adjusted. There are 12 teams in the men’s and women’s volleyball teams in the Paris Olympics. Except for the host France, which is directly shortlisted, 6 teams are selected through the Olympic qualifying rounds, and 5 teams are determined by the world rankings.
The Paris Olympic Volleyball Qualifying Tournament consists of the top 24 teams in the men’s and women’s volleyball world rankings. The deadline for the world rankings is September 22, 2022 for men’s volleyball and October 17, 2022 for women’s volleyball.
The 24 teams in the Paris Olympic Volleyball Qualifying Tournament will be divided into 3 groups, and each group of 8 teams will play a single round-robin match within the group. The top two teams will receive Olympic tickets. The hosts of the 3 qualifying groups will be from qualified teams and will need to occupy the top 3 seeds. The remaining 21 teams will enter three groups according to the world ranking snake. The men’s volleyball qualifying round will be held from September 30 to October 8, 2023, and the women’s volleyball qualifying round will be held from September 16 to 24, 2023.
Other teams that fail to qualify for the Olympic Games will be allocated the last 5 seats according to the world rankings following the 2024 National Volleyball League (June 24 for men’s volleyball, and June 17 for women’s volleyball), which will be taken first. The teams from the continents that did not get a seat, then take the world ranking.
After the reform of the indoor volleyball promotion plan for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Olympic prospects of China’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams are very different. The Chinese women’s volleyball team is ranked 3rd in the world and has a clear advantage in points among the Asian powerhouses. As long as he performs at a normal level in various events, the prospect of qualifying for the Paris Olympics is bright.
The Chinese men’s volleyball team is currently ranked 22nd in the world, ranking behind Iran (10th), Japan (11th) and Qatar (20th) among the Asian powerhouses, and the points difference is as high as 104 points compared with the Asian leader Iran. After the FIVB launched a new world ranking system, the Chinese men’s volleyball team, which has few competition opportunities, has almost an extravagant hope of becoming the world’s highest ranked team among the Asian powerhouses, and the difficulty of obtaining tickets for the Paris Olympics has increased significantly.
