Paris-Nice: “Wout Van Aert was a huge help”, recognizes Roglic, who saved his yellow jersey

“Wout was a huge help,” admitted the Slovenian from Jumbo-Visma in the post-race flash interview. Last year, Roglic had experienced a cross in the last stage, falling several times while he was the leader of the event. “I’m not going for a drama this year,” smiled Roglic. “It was super tough on the last climb. I have to thank my whole team for the work. And Wout of course. He is capable of doing everything.”

Roglic was unable to respond to the attack of Simon Yates, the second overall and winner of the stage, on the last ascent, the Col d’Eze. But the Slovenian was able to count on Van Aert to limit the damage and save his jersey for 29 seconds. “I wasn’t strong enough on that last climb,” admitted Roglic. “I really struggled to get through that last climb. I knew Wout was having a great day. He was a huge help until the finish.”

Roglic wins Paris-Nice for the first time.
