Paris-Nice: Dutchman Olav Kooij wins the 5th stage in Sisteron

Dutch Olav Kooy won the 5th stage from Paris-Nice to Sisteron this Thursday, his second victory in this 82nd edition of the “Race to the Sun”. The sprinter from the Visma-Lease a bike team won ahead of the Dane Mads Pedersen, whom he had already beaten during the first stage in Les Mureaux on Sunday.

This 5th stage between Saint-Sauveur-de-Montagut and Sisteron, a hilly stage comprising three passes and a climb over 193.5 km, was the last opportunity for the sprinters to seek a stage victory. And Olav Kooij did it.

The Drôme Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies) won the combativeness prize on this stage.

The Australian rider from the Jayco-Alula team Luke Plapp retains the yellow jersey leader with 13 seconds ahead of the Colombian Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain), winner on Wednesday of the 4th stage at the summit of Mont Brouilly. There are three stages left to go.
