Paris defies unrest with “the surrealism of the women’s wardrobe”

Paris is witnessing, to this day, a group of shows for high fashion collections (Haute Couture), which are awaited by fashion lovers in the world, despite the atmosphere of tension and riots that hang over the French capital, and it was the reason for the House of “Celine” to take a decision to cancel a show that was scheduled Last Sunday evening. .

The event kicked off with a fashion show by Schiaparelli, during which the house’s designer, American Daniel Rosebery, presented a “surreal interpretation of the daily women’s wardrobe.”

Rapper Cardi B, famous fashion journalist Anna Wintour, and actresses Gwendolyn Christie and Philippine Leroy Beaulieu were in the front row of the show, which was held at the Petit Palais (Little Palace).

With a white jacket, trousers, black turtleneck or dudon jackets.. it is hard to guess the point of use of these “spontaneous” collectible pieces for use as outfits for the office or for everyday life.

This is the form of “audacity” in the current season at Schiaparelli, following a fashion show for the high-end house in the previous season that sparked controversy last winter because of its dresses decorated with fake animal heads.

The first day of this week, which highlights craftsmanship and fashion made to order, also witnesses shows for the House of Dior and two newcomers: the American Tom Brown and the French Charles de Villemorant.

And the Federation of “Haute Couture” and Fashion in France confirmed that “unless the authorities decide otherwise,” the shows “will take place as planned.”

And the designer at Celine House, Hadi Suleiman, considered that “holding a fashion show in Paris, at a time when France and its capital are witnessing these developments, seems, in my view, inappropriate,” referring to the night riots that swept the country following the killing of a boy ( 17 years old) was shot by a policeman.

And Charles de Villemoran, 26, will present his first fashion show for his own brand, following he worked for a short time as artistic director of the “Rochas” house. His previous fashion collections were revealed in videos during the health crisis.

“I am very happy to have experienced all this and to present my first show,” de Villemorant said in the studio of his apartment, where he put the finishing touches on the collection last week.

Saudi Mohammed Ashi, whose designs were worn by world-famous women, including: Jordanian Queen Rania, Penelope Croth, Diane Kruger and Lady Gaga, is the first person from the Kingdom to join the “Haute Couture Week” in Paris, where he will present his collection today.

This pivotal stage in his career, following a series of fashion shows and projects by young Saudi designers on the sidelines of the men’s fashion week in Paris, falls within the context of the growing Saudi “soft power” in various fields, from sports to the arts, despite criticism of the kingdom over accusations of human rights violations.

“I am very happy for him,” says designer Stéphane Rolland, pointing out that he “discovered” Ashi on a TV show regarding fashion in the Middle East in which he was chairing the jury.

He adds, “He is an artist, poet” and “dreamer,” pointing out that “there is a group of talents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who have not been able to express themselves in the way they want for a long time.”

Stéphane Rolland (Tuesday) will present a performance dedicated to the late famous soprano Maria Callas, at the Parisian Opera Garnier, which will be filmed by French director Claude Lelouch for his next film.
