Paris 2024 Olympics – Kitefoil: Lauriane Nolot wins silver medal, but “disappointed” with this result

Lauriane Nolot, a young kitesurfer from Var, is taking off this Thursday the silver medal in kitefoil, discipline that was making its debut this year on the Olympic programme, in the harbour of Marseille. A second place that has hints of disappointment for the 25-year-old athlete, who had led most of the race in these Olympic Games. But she fell during the last race where she finished in 4th place.

“It’s a nice medal, but I didn’t come for that”

It’s a big disappointment because I have the impression that the Marseille wind didn’t really want me.“, regrets Lauriane Nolot, who says to herself “a little disappointed“by her silver medal, even if she is happy to have achieved”such a beautiful result“. “It’s a nice medal, but I didn’t come for that.” she insists.

Arrival at the top of the ranking after a week of intense competitionLauriane Nolot needed only one victory in Thursday’s final to secure Olympic gold. It is therefore a hard blow for Lauriane Nolot who sees the gold medal go to the British Eleanor Aldridge.

Born in Toulon on December 9, 1998 and raised in Camps-la-Source, Lauriane Nolot quickly developed a passion for board sports. She started kitesurfing at the age of 17, before turning to kitefoil, a more technical discipline with the addition of a hydrofoil under the board. In just a few years, she climbed the ranks of the sport, becoming French, European and world champion. In 2023, she is crowned world champion in The Hague, breaking the hegemony of the American Daniela Moroz.
