In less than a year, Paris will be expecting tens of millions of tourists from all over the world for the 2024 Olympic Games. But to accommodate so many spectators, the City has made radical decisions, both logistically and financially. . And one of them is regarding public transportation, and specifically the overall cost and demand.
Paris 2024 Olympics: metro tickets will double in price
After hotels and Airbnbs, it is the turn of metro tickets to considerably increase prices. No more basic ticket at €2.10, this will increase to…€4 during the entire Games. Trains will also experience the same increase, which will follow a significant increase in demand. The RATP and SNCF have set a price increase of 15% to finance the reinforcement of transport, with packages defined according to a decreasing rate.
However, in 2017, the promise was completely different. In the Paris2024 application file presented to the Olympic Committee, free public transport was promised… “These measures will be put in place for the Olympic Games as for the Paralympic Games: […] free access to the public transport network for ticket holders on the day of the competition and throughout the duration of the Paralympic Games for accredited persons.
