Indonesian speed climbing coach Hendra Basir said the training load for climbing athletes will start to be reduced in the final stages of training ahead of appearing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Now, the training load is starting to be reduced, not as intensive as before to maintain the condition of the athletes including avoiding injuries,” said Hendra when contacted by telephone, Thursday (18/7).

He said this was related to the preparation of rock climbing athletes so that they might perform optimally at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The number of Indonesian rock climbers who have secured tickets to compete in Paris is four people. Two athletes have already confirmed their qualifications, namely Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi and Rahmad Adi Mulyono.

Next, two other athletes who qualified through the qualifying championship were Raji’ah Sallsabilah and Veddriq Leonardo.

Hendra said that all athletes who qualified had been prepared through training since 2020 with the same training menu.

“There is no difference in the training menu because from the start they were prepared for the Olympics,” he said.

He explained that currently, the effective time for athlete training for the Olympics is two weeks or dozens of days left so the training load is reduced to maintain the condition of the athletes.

Athletes’ training, he said, is focused on improving techniques and maximizing the speed of their previous achievements.

Hendra added, in addition to physical training, the athletes also underwent psychological guidance to maintain their mentality so they might compete calmly and bring out all their best abilities when appearing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. (Ant/Z-1)
