Launch of work on the first cable car in Île-de-France, inauguration of the Jean-François Voguet theater following thirty years of reflection… The year 2023 was busy in the Val-de-Marne department. Year of the Paris Olympics, 2024 promises to be just as rich. Paris news takes stock of the major projects expected in the coming months.

Land of play during the Paris 2024 Olympics

The countdown is on for the historic sporting event. If the department does not host any event, apart from a passage of the cycling time trial route in Vincennes, Val-de-Marne intends to take part in the party.

Fifteen of its municipalities will therefore be crossed by the Olympic flame. On Sunday July 21, it will pass through the Maisons-Alfort Veterinary School, the Rungis International Market, the Château de Vincennes, the Mac Val and even the Orly airport.

The Paralympic flame will pass through the Sucy-en-Brie sports park and the Robert-Merle-d’Aubigné institute in Valenton on Wednesday August 27.

New cycle paths

Investments have increased for cycling facilities in the department. Val-de-Marne has the highest share of cycling facilities in sites and greenways per number of inhabitants in Île-de-France and aspires, in the long term, to bring its total length to 660 kilometers.

From 2024, this strategy provides for the start of structuring cycling development works for Val-de-Marnais, including:

  • RD120 to Vincennes et Saint-Mande : development of a two-way cycle path between Paris and Bois de Vincennes as part of the requalification of rue de Paris
  • RD6 to Charenton : bicycle development of rue de Paris
  • RD7 to Chevilly-Larue : development of a two-way cycle path to the right of the Chevilly-Larue Marché International station hub (new station of line 14 south extended to Orly airport)
  • RD86 to Creteil : Creation of a greenway between the redeveloped Pompadour crossroads and Pasteur Valléry Radot
  • RD215 to Maisons-Alfort : Development of a greenway on avenue de Verdun and rue du Port
  • RD4 to Joinville : Cycle path between the Pyramide road and the Joinville bridge

The department also plans to deploy new parking spaces aimed at two-wheelers and placing emphasis on awareness of cycling among the most vulnerable groups and middle school students.

Line 14, Altival: major transport deployment

In addition to the opening in summer 2024 of line 14 South which will connect Orly airport to Olympiades (Paris) in 16 minutes, the department is working on Altival. Short story project bus lane to facilitate their circulation towards the Grand Paris Express and the RER in the sector, it will eventually cross Chennevières-sur-Marne, Champigny-sur-Marne, Villiers-sur-Marne, Bry-sur-Marne and Noisy-le-Grand (Seine -St Denis).

The first section from Altival to the Villiers-Champigny-Bry station hub must be implemented at the end of 2025.

Goal for swimming in the Marne and the Seine

Wednesday January 10, trois micro-tunneliers will be baptized at the Chérioux departmental estate in Vitry-sur-Seine. A rare event necessary to dig simultaneously to respect the “very constrained schedule” but also to “reduce nuisance as much as possible”, explains the department.

Goals ? “Bring sanitation connections into compliance, that is to say, direct wastewater to purification installations and transport only rainwater to the Seine” and improve the quality of the water in the Seine.

Finally, delivery in spring 2024 of the storm water treatment plant of Champigny-sur-Marne will directly treat rainwater, making it 99.9% clean and discharging it into the Marne. A treatment made possible by ultraviolet. “The water passes through a channel equipped with UV lamps whose radiation eliminates bacteria,” we specify. Paris news.

Becoming the first solar farm in Île-de-France

The department is continuing the implementation of the energy transition master plan (SDTE) including the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on departmental equipment.

By the end of 2024, 8,753 m² of photovoltaic solar panels should be installed, enabling electricity production which will be equivalent to the average consumption of eight colleges.
