Paris 2024: French volleyball players defend their title!

2024-07-30 10:00:38

On the second day of the volleyball group stage, the French team can already aim to qualify. France will take on Canada at the Arena Sud in Paris this Tuesday (9 p.m.).

On Sunday, July 28, the French team performed well in the game and defeated the strong Serbian team 3-2. After winning the National League championship on June 30, the French team continued to maintain a good momentum. This is especially true of Jean Patry, whose service is excellent and the counter quality is high. Or rather, Trevor Clavino’s decision came after he came on in the first set as he became France’s leading scorer with 23 points.

Canada, a formidable rival?

If we refer to the classification International Volleyball Federation (FVIB), France ranks 5th, Serbia ranks 9th, and Canada ranks 15th. In theory, beating the Canadians should be easier. Especially in the first game, Earvin Ngapeth was still a little nervous. Indeed, the latter, returning from a calf injury, was troubled by the Serbian for a long time before playing a decisive role at the end of the game. However, we should not underestimate this Canadian team. They lost to Slovenia, but they will try their best to advance.

New eligibility formula

A new formula has emerged in volleyball this year. From now on, the group consists of 4 teams, leaving little room for maneuver. In fact, one win would be enough to advance to the group stage, with the worst-case scenario going to the best third-place team. At this point, the Blues, led by Italian Andrea Gianni, have perfectly started their road to defending the Tokyo Olympics title. However, a second victory would seal the Blues’ qualification. See you tonight at 9pm at the Arena Paris Sud.
