Paris 2024 apologizes for ‘The Last Supper’ sketch | TUDN Paris 2024

The organisers of the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have apologised to religious groups who were offended by a skit from The Last Supper that appeared at the opening of the games.

The apologies are directed especially at Catholics and Christians who have expressed their discontent on social media with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the way in which they were presented.

This act has caused general discontent in the French population and the issue has transcended worldwide, to the point that several figures like Ryan Garcia They have called for a boycott of the games, saying that “this opening has made them vomit.”

Politically, this representation has not been well received, as one cannot forget what happened to radical Muslim groups when they felt offended by a publication by the Charlie Hebdo tabloid in 2015.

“It is clear that there was never any intention to disrespect any religious group. (The opening ceremony) was intended to celebrate community tolerance,” said Paris 2024 spokeswoman Anne Deschamps.

After this statement, the apology was not entirely clear, as he later added: “If anyone has felt offended, we are very sorry.”

The opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was a radical departure from its origins, reminding us that the celebration of the games is about the unity of humanity and not its separation.

Pierre de Coubertin, considered the founding father of the modern Olympic Games, believed that mutual understanding was a fundamental value that could contribute to world peace, something that clearly in the attempt to innovate ends up hitting deep beliefs hard.
