In an abbreviated procedure hearing held this Monday, Luis Castillo, who had been pardoned by President Gabriel Boric in December 2022, was sentenced to four years in prison for the crimes of robbery with intimidation and violence, as well as for driving under the influence of narcotics. The events occurred in Copiapó in December of last year.
The hearing was assumed by the prosecutor of the Criminal Analysis and Investigative Focus Unit (Sacfi) of the Atacama Prosecutor’s Office, Sebastián Coya González, who pointed out that during the investigation new antecedents were discovered that implied the participation of all those involved. This led to a reformulation of the original charges.
“Since December of last year, the background of the investigative file that was presented at the detention control hearing revealed crimes of robbery and kidnapping. However, with the execution of the procedures ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office, new records were obtained that made it possible to prove the crime of robbery with intimidation and violence and driving under the influence of narcotics,” explained prosecutor Coya.
In the abbreviated procedure, Castillo Opazo accepted the facts, which led to his conviction and an effective sentence of four years and one day in prison. The same sentence was imposed on her partner, Camila Morales, although the latter received an alternative sentence of intensive probation due to her previous irreproachable conduct.
On the other hand, the adolescents who participated in the events had already been sentenced to six months of intervention in a specialized rehabilitation program.
