With the approach of the first answers by the 1is June on Parcoursup, the French post-baccalaureate admission platform, the Ministries of National Education and Higher Education announced on Tuesday that 917,000 candidates had confirmed at least one orientation wish. A figure down 2% compared to the same time last year. The institution also assured that the response times to the wishes of candidates would be reduced this year.

More orientation wishes than last year

Among the candidates, there are 629,000 high school students (preparing for the baccalaureate and educated in France and abroad), 163,000 students who wish to reorient themselves in the first year, 87,000 candidates with a plan to resume studies and 34,500 candidates (high school students and students ) who follow non-French education abroad.

The two ministries point out that this year, the reorientations are in “sharp decline, by 12.1%”. In total, the candidates confirmed nearly 11.8 million wishes and sub-wishes, an increase of 2% compared to the previous year, “mainly” the fact of high school students, it is specified.

Regarding apprenticeship training, the ministries indicate that they are “more numerous to be offered on the platform (8,900) and their attractiveness continues”. 210,000 candidates have already confirmed more than 1.1 million wishes for these training courses. “Applications remain possible until September 12, 2023”, is it specified in their joint press release.

As a reminder, the phase of finalizing files and confirming wishes ended on April 6 and high school and reorientation students had the obligation to confirm at least one wish. The candidates made their choice from among 21,000 training courses recognized by the State. Each candidate could formulate ten wishes, without having to classify them, and fill in sub-wishes according to training.

Reduce “candidates’ sense of expectation and stress”

The two institutions also promise to “reduce the feeling of expectation of candidates and stress”. “In the continuity of the improvements made this year to meet the expectations expressed by the candidates and the recommendations of the Parcoursup Ethics and Scientific Committee, changes will be implemented as part of the main admission phase”, is it written in it.

Thus, “new deadlines will make it possible to start the admission phase more quickly and to generate proposals for more candidates, sooner”, we are assured. “Between June 30 and July 3, candidates who still have pending wishes will have to rank them in order of preference. This order of priority will be taken into account by the platform, in particular for sending the last proposals at the end of the admission phase”.

Another change compared to the initial calendar: the admission phase “will end on July 7 instead of July 13”, thus allowing “to leave more time for high school students and families to prepare for their return to school (administrative registration, search for possible accommodation).
